We stayed on 9/18/2025 On a whim, my husband and I decided to take off for our 26th Wedding Anniversary. We decided to be spontaneous and celebrate our anniversary by taking a chance we might find a room somewhere on the Lake George side of the Adirondacks. My husband asked me to look up hotels/motels to see if there might be something close to town/ walking distance. As I was looking online for a reasonable place to stay, while he was driving, I came across Sundowners motel, checked out reviews, which helped me too make a decision to stay, while I felt the price was within our budget. I booked the room without knowing what may lay in store. We checked in and were told our room number and what they expected of us. We went to the room, opened the door and WOW, what an unexpected, beautiful, and absolutely amazing room for our anniversary night! Very clean, fresh and just breathtaking! I will absolutely visit again!

Normally, we're hotel people. We love a good Marriott. But for our time in Lake George, we wanted to be ON the water - and we wanted to feel like we were on Lake George. The Sundowner had several things going for it: 1) Right on the water 2) Perfect location 3) Their property listed that it had kayaks and paddleboards at no charge for guests. That last one made the trip perfect for us. Our group wanted to spend a lot of time on the water. We had our two girls, my nephew and a boyfriend of one of my daughters with us. I'll start with the rental process. It is free. You basically get 90 minutes (loosely tracked) every time you request water craft. You walk up the hill (it's not a mild incline) to the main lobby / store and give them your driver's license. Somebody 18 or older must REQUEST the gear. They give you paddles and life vests for however many kayas or SUPs you want to take out. You bring the stuff back in 90 minutes and get your license back. Easy, but you can't just grab gear and go out all day. They do this to give everyone a chance if they want to use it, but they had like 7-9 single person kayaks... a 3 person canoe and 6 to 8 SUPs. At no point did we have to wait for anything on our 3 days there. The property also has a fire pit and you can buy bundles of wood. And a small, but clean beach for access to swimming. Everything is easy and close. Not large... but sufficient. The rooms were great. AT least the room we had felt open and large. Living room / kitchen area was a little tight, but we also had 6 people. It's also walking distance to Lake George proper. If you want to park your car and have access to the city of Lake George... water, swimming, SUP / kayaking, GORGEOUS VIEWS of the lake - this place is absolutely worth checking out. Was it perfect? No... nowhere is. You'll find small things they can do better or improve. But it really is a great little property if your goals were like ours.

Coziest place on the strip for a family. The kitchen area between the two separate bedrooms, each with two full beds make it so convenient. We love this spot and have decided to return the last few years.

Perfect getaway! Room was clean and super cute! Close to downtown and a perfect little beach to get out and enjoy the lake. We used the free kayaks twice and had a ball. Swam mostly. Perfect space to come back to after a long day of activities!

Room was spacious for 5 guys for one night. 4 queen beds + 2 sofas made for fine accommodations. Outside looks a little dated, but inside was newly renovated. Lean heavily into the bear theme. Easy walk to grocery store & restaurants. Beach is pretty small, but serviceable with grills and canoes if that's your jam. Lady at desk was friendly.

The location of this hotel is great. It is only a short 5-minute walk to the village. The cabins are perfect for a getaway. The staff is friendly and professional. They can answer any questions that you have. The cabins include your own private grill. The grounds are perfect with a private beach access Lake access, and kayaks. They also have a fire pit that they sell wood and fire starters right on site.

We booked this hotel on a whim and we were delighted when we arrived. The room was beautifully decorated with rustic Adirondack furniture that looked brand new. The room had everything we needed. The view is spectacular. Kayaks, paddle boards, and a canoe available for use. Large fire pit that we could enjoy from our balcony. We will be back!
